The blaze destroyed 36 temporary oil and produced water storage tanks on a six-well pad producing from the Gallup tight oil play in San Juan County near the town of Nageezi.
Firefighters initially allowed the conflagration to burn itself due to safety concerns tied to the intense heat of the flames and to try to minimise prevent spreading any hydrocarbons outside the confines of the five-acre well pad.
