The 20,000-tonne-capacity Taisun hoisted the 14,000-tonne drilling module of China Oilfield Services Limited’s (COSL’s) semi-submersible rig Pioneer into place in a single operation. Such a large unit would previously have had to be lifted piecemeal.
The GM 4000 design rig is owned by COSL Drilling Europe. It will be able to drill wells up to 7500 metres deep in water depths of up to 750 metres.
