The state-led Argentine company said the first discovery was made in the Tupungato department, in the Cuenca Cuyana and Bolsones blocks.

The well was drilled to 3443 metres to evaluate the Lower Rio Blanco formation.

The other wells are located in the Malargue department in the Payun Oeste exploratory block and attained a average depth of 2700 metres.

The activity reflects YPF's latest efforts to increase production from mature fields, seeking new accumulations to the west of current productive areas of Barrancas, Vizcacheras and La Ventana.
