The drilling of the well comes just as the company has received approval from the Egyptian Oil Ministry to press ahead with its development of the deep-water field, where production start up is expected at the end of next year.
The Zohr-2 appraisal well, just 1.5 kilometres south-east and down dip from the Zohr-1 discovery well on the Shorouk block, was drilled to 4171 metres, encountering 455 metres of continuous hydrocarbon column in the carbonate sequence with “excellent reservoir characteristics”, Eni said.
