The Italian state player revealed days ago that it had unearthed an estimated 30 trillion cubic feet of gas in place on its 100%-owned Shorouk block following drilling of the Zohr1X NFW probe.
The sheer size of the gas find, which Eni said was the largest ever in Egypt or the Mediterranean and could become one of the largest in the world, led to speculation that it may scupper deals to import gas from Israel and Cyprus from giant fields that are themselves yet to come online.
