OPINION: Angry protesters storming through the corridors of power in Brasilia portrayed political chaos at the heart of South America’s biggest economy on Sunday.

United by hatred of newly inaugurated President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva and fervour for his far-right predecessor, Jair Bolsonaro, the rioters vented their fury against the institutions of democracy and what they see as corrupt liberalism.

They trashed the interiors of the modernist gems that house the three branches of government in Brazil, with little hindrance from authorities in the federal district.
