OPINION: US President Joe Biden’s energy transition strategy seemed to give a sideways lurch this week with a decision to resume selling leases for drilling on federal lands.

With the political temperature running so high on the twin issues of energy prices and climate change, the move drew flak from both sides of the debate.

For climate campaigners and many activists in Biden's own Democratic Party, the move smacked of betrayal.

On the campaign trail, Biden had assured them his administration would make the break from fossil fuels.
