OPINION: One of the ironies around the debate over labour shortages and migration is that some of the world’s historic colonisers have become so averse to foreign labour entering their country.

There is no more sensitive political issue in the UK than migration which played a key role in the Brexit decision to leave the European Union.

France, Denmark and many other developed countries are struggling with the same debate around foreign workers, even as their post-Covid economies struggle with shortages of labour.
