OPINION: Exploration activities are set to pick up pace once again in Suriname, as the tiny South American nation aspires to become a global oil and gas powerhouse in the future.
However, unlike its neighbour Guyana where US supermajor ExxonMobil has so far unlocked 11 billion barrels of oil equivalent in recoverable resources, Suriname remains to this date a very small player as it produces a mere 14,000 barrels per day of oil from some onshore and nearshore fields.
