Japanese energy services giant JGC has appointed its first non-Japanese citizen as a president and representative director.

The company said Farhan Mujib had been appointed as the president and representative director of JGC Corporation effective from 1 January 2022. The current president Yutaka Yamazaki will continue to serve as a director of JGC Holdings and JGC Corporation.

A spokesperson for the company told Upstream that Mujib has worked in JGC's Yokohama head office since May 2020, and that a non-Japanese citizen has never before been a president of the company.

Prior to joining JGC, Mujib worked for US contracting giant KBR for more than 31 years. His last role at KBR was president of hydrocarbons delivery solutions.

Mujib holds a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering; Master of Science in Structural Engineering and Construction and Master in Business Administration.

"He has outstanding global experience and knowledge of EPC projects in both Energy and Infrastructure fields including a strong network of connection with clients and contractors in the energy, technology and infrastructure businesses," said JGC.

"The shift toward the energy transition is beginning to accelerate rapidly in the market environment of JGC Corporation's main sphere of energy.
