Erik Haugane is a legend of the Norwegian oil and gas sector, a geologist by training with an affinity for wearing bow ties and a talent for creating new business opportunities by thinking outside the box.

Haugane retired last year as chief executive of the Norwegian independent Okea, which he co-founded in 2015. He remains an adviser to the company, but is mainly focused on other projects such as technology start-ups.

His exit brought down the curtain on an intriguing career in which Haugane helped establish three oil and gas companies, including Okea.
