A Russian television station backed by state gas monopoly Gazprom has ridiculed the fuel crisis gripping the UK, comparing it to food queues during the Soviet era.

“The few petrol stations that still have fuel are under siege as car owners are ready to fight for their lives,” said a news report on the pro-Kremlin station NTV.

“Queues at petrol pumps are like shortages of sausage in the time of the Soviet Union.
