Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement has warned it may use “force” to underpin its maritime boundary claim with Israel, a threat triggered by this week’s arrival of a floating production, storage and offloading vessel at Energean’s Karish gas field in Israeli waters.
The Energean Power FPSO’s arrival at its location some 80 kilometres off Israel’s coast reignited tensions about a long-festering maritime boundary dispute between the two countries, with Beirut calling on a US envoy to revive indirect talks that last took place in 2020 after 30 years of no contact between the two countries.
