The Brazilian government has exempted offshore crew members from a ban on foreigners entering the country that was put in place in response to the country’s Covid-19 crisis.

The ban has undermined broadly successful efforts to keep seismic vessels, service vessels, rigs and production platforms operational during the novel coronavirus pandemic because the pool of workers available in Brazil has been diminished by the imposition of strict quarantine measures for those having faced any exposure to possible contamination.

Brazilian authorities have also registered several hundred cases of positive testing for Covid-19 in the offshore environment, leading to rapid isolation and deep-cleaning measures in each case.
