Russia’s Gazprom has threatened to halt payments for gas transit supplies to Europe unless Ukraine’s gas importer and distributor Naftogaz withdraws its recently submitted appeal against the Russian state-controlled gas giant from an international arbitration court.

The threat may lead to Gazprom stopping any further transport of Russian gas to Europe via the last remaining transit route.

This trans-Ukraine route currently delivers about 36.5 million cubic metres per day of gas to Central Europe and another 5.5 MMcmd to Ukraine’s neighbour Moldova.
