Myanmar's military government is widely reported to be laying landmines along parts of the pipeline infrastructure that exports gas from Posco International’s offshore Shwe field to neighbouring China., wher it is in great demand.

At Beijing’s request, Myanmar has also stepped up security around oil and gas pipelines running through Hsipaw Township and near to a pipeline control centre for the gas pipeline in northern Shan state, with the aim of deterring pro-democracy resistance groups from sabotaging the key infrastructure, according to the Shan Human Rights Foundation.
