The security situation in Myanmar, a significant regional gas producing nation, continues to deteriorate with the military junta that seized power early last year stepping up air and ground strikes in Loikaw in Kayah state.

Loikaw, where at least four civilians have been killed, is home to members of the People’s Defence Force and the Karenni Army, which Myanmar’s military is understood to be targeting.

Wider atrocities by the military junta documented by Human Rights Watch and other rights groups include murder, enforced disappearance, torture and rape.
