Shell is to withdraw from any involvement in Russian hydrocarbons, the UK supermajor said on Monday, as it also apologised for a recent spot purchase of Urals crude oil following Moscow's invasion of Ukraine.

Shell said the withdrawal, which will be carried out "in a phased manner", is aligned with new UK government guidance and will include "crude oil, petroleum products, gas and liquefied natural gas".

The company will also shut its service stations, aviation fuels and lubricants operations in Russia.
