The operators of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) running between Turkey and Italy have launched the first in a series of expansion plans to increase its flow capacity, in line with European Union goals to import more natural gas from the Caspian Sea.

TAP will now trigger the first level of the capacity expansion, allocating an additional 1.2 billion cubic metres of gas per anum on long-term contracts that will begin in January 2026, a TAP spokesperson confirmed to Upstream.
