The US has promised to secure an additional 15 billion cubic metres or more of liquefied natural gas for the European market this year to help offset the cut in natural gas supplies from Russia, the White House said on Friday.

US President Joe Biden, who is in Europe for discussions with allies on the Ukraine crisis, made a joint statement with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen announcing the creation of a joint task force that will work to reduce Europe’s dependence on Russian fossil fuels following the military invasion of Ukraine.
