Aker Solutions joint venture scoops Brunei brownfield prize
Joint venture of Norway’s Aker Solutions and PTAS of Brunei Darussalam has secured a five-year agreement to provide offshore brownfield maintenance and modification services
A joint venture of Norway’s Aker Solutions and PTAS of Brunei Darussalam has secured a five-year agreement to provide offshore brownfield maintenance and modification services to Brunei Shell Petroleum (BSP).
The workscope covers maintenance and upgrades intended to maintain production at more than 200 offshore assets.
"We are pleased to continue our work for Brunei Shell Petroleum and look forward to help extend the lifetime of the offshore installations in the South China Sea," said Luis Araujo, Aker Solutions chief executive.
Since Aker Solutions secured the offshore reliability maintenance and construction contract for BSP eight year ago, the contractor said it has continuously improved the service delivery and introduced new working methods and technology to BSP.
Achievements included a strong health, safety and environment performance, increasing local content by training a local workforce and setting up a fabrication yard that was handed over to a local company. At the same time, the productivity of offshore crew increased, noted Aker Solutions on Monday.
The new joint venture, PTAS Aker Solutions, will now ensure continuity of that delivery with the work being managed from the JV’s office in Kuala Belait in Brunei.
Aker Solutions currently employs more than 340 people in Brunei and manages 2300 though local subcontractors.
As a result of the contract award, Aker Solutions will book an order intake of around Nkr4 billion ($377 million) in the first quarter of 2020.
BSP is a 50:50 joint venture between Anglo-Dutch supermajor Shell and the Bruneian government.
