The Australian government is looking to boost domestic gas supplies and improve infrastructure as part of a “gas-led recovery” for the economy from the Covid-19 pandemic.

Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison unveiled plans Tuesday to unlock gas supplies and deliver an efficient pipeline and transportation market in a bid to make energy more affordable and support jobs as Australia looks to recover from its worst recession since World War 2 in the wake of Covid-19.

In order to get more gas into the market the government intends to set new gas supply targets with states and territories and enforce potential “use-it or lose it” requirements on gas licenses.
