BP has started production from its Manuel project in the US Gulf of Mexico as part of the UK supermajor's strategy to add "resilient hydrocarbons" to its portfolio.

Located on Mississippi Canyon Block 520, the Manuel project includes two wells drilled south-east of the Na Kika platform to a depth of about 6400 metres, around 225 kilometres off the coast of New Orleans in 2000 metres of water.

The wells are tied back to the Na Kika platform via a single riser and flowline.
