Edinburgh-headquartered Cairn Energy has announced separate agreements to buy Shell’s Western Desert assets in Egypt and to sell a clutch of non-operating interests in UK North Sea producing assets to private equity backed player Waldorf Production.

Cairn said the Western Desert assets are being bought for $646 million in a joint venture partnership with Egyptian operator Cheiron, with the price tag being split 50:50.
