US oilfield services stalwart Halliburton has formed a strategic collaboration with computer giant Microsoft.

The agreement, which also involves business services company Accenture, will see Halliburton complete its move to cloud-based digital platforms and strengthen its offerings to customers, it said.

It will also see the migration of all Halliburton's physical data centres to Azure, Microsoft’s cloud computing service.

“The strategic agreement with Microsoft and Accenture is an important step in our adoption of new technology and applications to enhance our digital capabilities, drive additional business agility and reduce capital expenditures,” said Halliburton chief executive Jeff Miller.
