TotalEnergies is looking at developing fast-track gas projects in the North Sea in an effort to help the European Union switch away from Russian gas imports.

Chief executive Patrick Pouyanne told analysts yesterday that higher gas prices on the continent allied to security of supply issues have led governments to ask the company to see if there is a way oil and gas assets can be brought on stream quickly.

“We are revisiting a few projects we could have in the North Sea… and some European states are asking us if we could produce more domestically,” he said.
