The Gazprom-led operator of the controversial Nord Stream 2 Russian gas export pipeline has re-applied for permission to start pipelaying work in German waters as soon as its pipelay barge Fortuna finishes its current job offshore Denmark.

The pipeline — which will carry Russian gas to Germany — has attracted criticism from the US and other quarters as it is perceived as increasing Europe's reliance on Russian gas supplies.
