Norway’s Petroleum & Energy Ministry has formally issued permissions to allow higher production from six offshore fields in order to boost natural gas sales by about 9 billion cubic metres in 2022, compared with 2021 levels.
The approvals, valid for 2022 and 2023, confirmed what Norwegian Petroleum & Energy Minister Terje Lien Aasland told Upstream in May, that production will reach 122 Bcm in 2022, in what is described as a response to heightened demand for energy in Western Europe in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
