Occidental chief executive Vicki Hollub used the company’s first quarter 2021 earnings call to slam the idea of a moratorium on leases on US federal lands, claiming it would be harmful to the nation as a whole.

Hollub said the US Bureau of Land Management had started to issues leases after a short moratorium earlier this year, but a longer-term ban remains a concern.

If the administration of US President Joe Biden were to cut off federal leases for oil and gas production, Hollub said, the results would cause more harm than good.
