French giant TotalEnergies has signed deals worth $27 billion to build multiple oil and gas, as well as solar projects, in Southern Iraq.

Iraq’s oil minister Ihsan Abdul Jabbar said on Sunday that contracts have been signed for four key projects, terming the deal as the “biggest investment by a western company in Iraq.”

The majority of projects are aimed at boosting oil and gas production from some of the largest fields in Iraq, as the nation plans to reduce its dependence on imported gas and further ramp up its domestic oil output.
