Germany’s Winteshall Dea has transferred operatorship of some of its Libyan oilfields in the onshore Sirte basin to a state-led joint venture.

The German company holds interests in and operates Contract Areas 91 (former Concession 96) and 107 (former Concession 97) via Wintershall Aktiengesellschaft (WIAG), a joint venture with Russia’s Gazprom.

Operatorship will now be passed on to Sarir Oil Operations, a newly established joint operating company with the National Oil Corporation (NOC).

After the signing of two exploration and production sharing agreements in December 2019, WIAG had continued to transitionally operate the fields, while Sarir Oil was being established and prepared to assume operational responsibility.
