Awilco Drilling has firmed up a contract with Petrofac for its semi-submersible WilPhoenix to carry out well plug-and-abandonment work off the UK.

The 1982-built rig has been contracted for plugging and abandonment (P&A) of three wells on the Rubie and Renee fields in the North Sea, with an estimated firm duration of 100 days for the charter that is due to start in May this year.

The award with Petrofac Facilities Management follows an earlier letter of intent disclosed by the Oslo-listed drilling contractor, which has also lined up a further job for the unit with Serica Energy off the UK that has yet to be confirmed.

Petrofac was last year awarded the P&A job with Hess for a total of four wells on the pair of UK fields that have been shut in as part of an earlier decommissioning phase.
