Malaysian offshore contractor Bumi Armada may appeal an Australian court decision that favoured Woodside Petroleum following a dispute over a terminated contract for a floating production, storage and offloading vessel.

The Supreme Court of Western Australia delivered its judgement on 24 January in Woodside's favour, dismissing Bumi Armada's main claim.

In March 2016, Woodside unexpectedly issued a notice of termination to Bumi for the Armada Claire FPSO working on the Balnaves oilfield off Western Australia.

The floater had been on contract since August 2014 under a four-year fixed charter with extension options.

Woodside said the termination had been due to "performance-related issues", but Bumi said its contract was wrongfully terminated.

"Bumi Armada is currently reviewing the judgment and considering possible grounds of appeal. Any appeal is to be lodged by 14 February 2020," the Malaysian company said.
