Petrobras has awarded two new long-term charters for ultra-deepwater rigs for operations in the Santos basin, providing welcome cheer for Brazilian players Constellation Oil Services and Ocyan.

Constellation won a new 810-day term for the drillship Brava Star, which includes what the contractor described as a clause permitting “termination for convenience after 180 days subject to a demobilisation fee”.

Constellation’s statement did not provide details of the Petrobras tender to which the contract relates, but Brazilian industry sources told Upstream that the Brava Star appears to have bumped Seadrill’s drillship West Carina out of the reckoning for a drilling campaign on several pre-salt prospects.
