Seadrill Partners has secured a charter extension with BP for its ultra-deepwater drillship West Vela for drilling work in the US Gulf of Mexico, albeit at a cut-price dayrate.

The 2013-built seventh-generation unit has been contracted for an additional period of nearly five months until early April 2021 by the UK supermajor under an extension worth $23.8 million, according to a spokesman for London-based Seadrill, of which Seadrill Partners is a subsidiary.
