Dolphin Drilling has gained further possible employment for its veteran semi-submersible rig Borgland Dolphin after winning a letter of intent with an undisclosed operator.

The 1977-built rig, which was totally rebuilt with new topsides in 1998, is set to drill a single development well off Norway under the provisional deal, with options for two additional wells, according to the Oslo-listed drilling contractor.

The contract is due to start on 1 February next year year and has an estimated duration of 70 days.
While no more details were disclosed, Oslo-based Bassoe Analytics estimated the dayrate at $170,000 for the contract, which would equate to a total value of around $12 million for the firm deal.
This would be up on Bassoe’s revised estimated rate of $150,000 for the rig’s upcoming contract with i3Energy for a three-well drilling effort at the Liberator field off the UK, due to start this summer.
The semisub will be reactivated for the work from its present warm-stacked status off Norway.
