Netherlands-based SBM Offshore has contracted a yard in Canada to handle the recycling of the 21,000-tonne Deep Panuke jackup production platform that was removed from its location off Nova Scotia earlier this year after the eponymous gas field was abandoned.

“The unit arrived safely in the (recycling) yard yesterday morning, local time,” said an SBM spokesman today, pointing out that a local rumour suggesting the towed barge carrying the platform “ran aground or hit the seabed is false.”
