A small crowd of onlookers gathered on the waterfront in the UK seaside town of Weston-super-Mare last week to witness the arrival of See Monster, a decommissioned North Sea offshore platform soon to be reborn as a tourist attraction.

When installed and fully decked out, the disused gas platform will have been reborn as a 35-metre tall park with a waterfall, four levels sporting trees and grasses, a 6000-piece kinetic installation forming the monster’s “scales”, and an amphitheatre on what was once a helideck.
