Sembcorp Marine is spending an additional quarter of a billion dollars on bringing in workers from less traditional labour markets in order to complete projects at its Singapore yards while also complying with the government’s stringent protocols on the entry of migrant workers during the coronavirus pandemic.

“To complete the existing projects with minimum further delay, the group has actively sourced for skilled workers from other countries, tapping into alternative labour supply other than the recruitment from sources the group use[d] to hire from,” said chief executive Wong Weng Sun.
