UK shale explorers are reviewing the implications of the UK government's decision to impose a moratorium on hydraulic fracturing but say they still want to prove that the industry can operate safely and in an environmentally responsible manner.

The UK government had been a longtime supporter of the fracking industry but on Friday put in place an immediate moratorium in England after a review published by the Oil & Gas Authority (OGA) concluded it was impossible to predict the likelihood or scale of earthquakes triggered by the process.
