Argentine state oil company YPF is working to extinguish a fire at one of its wells in the Vaca Muerta shale play, it said in a securities filing.

The incident occurred at the LLLO X-2 well in the Loma La Lata and Sierra Barrosa concession in Neuquen province after a gas leak was detected on Saturday.

There were no reported injuries and the oil infrastructure is not near a populated area, YPF said. The blaze was also limited to the one area, having shown no evidence of spreading to other installations.

"As part of its ongoing procedures, and pursuant to its respective protocols, YPF is working alongside international specialists, who are already working on site on a plan to mitigate this situation and to contain the gas leak, although it is estimated that a final solution may take several weeks," the operator said.

"The company remains in constant communication with provincial authorities regarding this situation, its evolution and the measures which are being adopted (as a number of such measures are adopted jointly with the authorities)."

YPF has been developing a tight gas project in the Sierra Barrosa area which is within the older concession of the mature gas giant Loma la Lata.
