A fire broke out early on Sunday at Equinor’s Mongstad facility in Norway and the plant has all but been evacuated except for key personnel handling operations and emergency response.
The incident was reported 5:46am local time to the Norwegian state-owned player’s emergency response organisation, but no one was injured.
Public rescue services and authorities have been notified.
“A controlled burning of trapped volumes through pressure relief is being conducted, with continuous cooling of the surrounding equipment,” Equinor said.
“The main plant is still in operation, but parts of it involved in production of some refined products are affected.”
