Japan’s Kawasaki Heavy Industries and Australian company Whittens Group have been charged over the death of a worker in 2017 during the construction of the Inpex-operated Ichthys liquefied natural gas project in the Northern Territory.

NT Worksafe confirmed the charges this week over the death of 56-year old Carl Delaney who worked for sub-contractor Whittens.

Delaney was killed in 2017 while carrying out insulation repair works on one of the LNG tanks after he fell inside the confined space and was engulfed by the insulation and suffocated.
