Chinese government and industry officials have been out on high alert after cases of the Omicron variant of the Coronavirus were discovered in the northern city of Tianjin, which hosts several fabrication yards.

Tianjin-based offshore contractor Offshore Oil Engineering Company (COOEC) has ordered its employees to work from home since Monday until they obtain a negative test result, according to sources familiar with the company.

However, modules fabrication specialist Bomesc Offshore Engineering, which is also headquartered in Tianjin, is running its yard as normal even though medical authorities have set up eight nucleic-acid amplification Covid-19 screening checkpoints at the yard.
