Japanese operator Inpex has had a Covid-19 scare at its onshore liquefied natural gas facilities in Australia’s Northern Territory, with a worker testing negative for the deadly virus.

Inpex deputy vice president of corporate co-ordination Bill Townsend confirmed to Upstream that a contractor at the onshore Ichthys LNG facilities near Darwin had been tested last week for Covid-19, with the result returning negative for the virus.

He added that the worker had been in self-isolation and additional personnel were also isolated as an additional precautionary measure, however he did not specify the exact number of workers that were isolated.
