The US state of North Dakota has filed suit against the Biden administration over its suspension of oil and gas lease sales on federal lands, claiming the move is unconstitutional.

The lawsuit specifically names the US Department of the Interior and the Bureau of Land Management, the agencies responsible for holding the lease sales.

Future sales were put on hold on 27 January, with the Biden administration citing concerns over climate change. In the suit, the state said the cancellation of regularly scheduled lease sales violates federal law.
