Local authorities in south-west China’s Guizhou province has unveiled an ambitious plan to develop local shale gas resources over the next five years, aiming to become the second largest shale gas producing province by 2025.

The provincial government said in a recent decree that it plans to discover 10 billion cubic metres of shale gas reserves by 2022 in Zhengan and Xishui areas to build up an annual shale gas production capacity of 1.5 Bcm.

The reserves and production in the two areas are planned to further increase to 50 Bcm and 2 Bcm, respectively.
