China has set its sights on a significant increase in shale gas production to the middle of this decade, but some industry officials have claimed the targets are overly ambitious

Ministry of Natural Resources official Zhang Dawei told the 10th Asia Pacific Shale Gas & Oil Summit held by Energy China Forum in Shanghai late last week that the country is looking to boost shale gas production to between 50 billion and 80 billion cubic metres per annum by 2025 as part of its China's 14th five-year economic development plan, which starts from next year.
