China is moving ahead with a fresh plan to build a multi-billion dollar shale gas industry zone, with ambitions to boost unconventional gas output from the zone in south-western China’s Chongqing city to 20 billion cubic metres by 2030.

The plan to establish the zone comes at a time when the world's largest energy consumer is working hard to maximise its massive unconventional gas resources to meet surging energy demand over the coming decades.
