UK supermajor BP is understood to have made a potentially significant shale gas discovery in the Sichuan basin in south-west China, writes Xu Yihe.
Sources said that discovery well Wei 206-H1 drilled at the Neijiang Dazhu block is now flowing 10,000 cubic metres per day after drilling that reached a depth of 4815 metres.
Drilling was carried out by a crew employed by China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) at a cost of about 100 million yuan ($15 million) and lasted four months.
